Green Lawn Mowers

If you are a home owner that mows their lawn regularly and want to help save the environment, one of the best things you can do is commit to replacing your existing lawn mower with an eco friendly electric option. Of course this is not something everyone can do from one day to the next but you can certainly choose a more environmentally friendly option once your existing lawn mower wears out.
Electric Lawnmower Myths?
Electric lawn mowers lack the power to do a proper job!
This may have been the case some years ago. With today’s powerful electric motors, many electric mowers have just as much power as some regular gas powered mowers. In fact, many electric (both cordless and corded) have the equivalent of 4 horsepower. That being said, just because your gas option has 10 horsepower, doesn’t mean you need it. After all, you are cutting blades of grass not mowing down oak trees! How much power does it really take to cut a blade of grass?
Eco friendly lawn mowers are much more expensive than gas mowers!
This is simply not true. There are plenty of electric mowers that equivalently priced to regular gas mowers. Once more, electric lawn mowers actually pay for themselves in the long run. Most can be run for as little as $5 in electric charges a year! How many gallons of gas do you use every year to mow your lawn? Then there are oil changes and maintenance costs to keep that gas mower running. Electric options need little to no maintenance. They also last much longer. Did you know that the average home owner purchases a new lawn mower every 3-4 years?
Eco friendly mowers are harder to use!
Absolutely NOT! If you can turn on a light switch, you can operate an electric mower. In fact, they are much easier to use! How many back breaking pull starts does it take to start that old rusty gas mower? There is also a huge weight difference with electrics being much lighter and easier to push. That’s why they don’t need complicated mechanisms to propel themselves like gas ones do. So if you have a hard time pushing that heavy mower, then an electric option is perfect for you! They are actually perfect for seniors that can no longer push those heavy gas mowers.
Most lawns are too big for electric mowers!
A little bit of research reveals that the average home owner has just 1/3 to 1/5 acre of lawn, yet most choose to use gas option! Some even have riding mowers! Talk about killing a fly with a shot gun! The electric lawn mower is the perfect solution for those with average sized lawns. Of course if you have an acre or more, then an electric option is not for you, at least not until affordable electric riding mowers are introduced. That being said, those with such large lawns are in the minority.
Switching to Eco Friendly options will do next to nothing in terms of helping the environment!
While this is true, the same can be said about recycling and hybrid cars. Yet both have become very popular. Just think if the average home owner switched to electrics? This would virtually eliminate the need for the 800 million gallons of gas used every year to mow. It starts with you and your commitment to be Green! Having said that, just think of the benefits you will enjoy by switching: no more harmful and obnoxious noise, no more noxious fumes to breath while you mow, no more back braking pull starts and no more annoying trips to the gas station when you run out of gas half way through!
